Helicopter manufacturer Kaman is one of several companies developing new uncrewed aerial vehicles that can carry relatively large quantities of cargo into danger zones, without risking pilots or higher-value aircraft. In addition to its Kargo UAV, other autonomous aircraft being developed by innovators including Elroy Air, MightyFly, Pipistrel and Kitty Hawk are also in the works. If they were available today, they could be providing vital support in dangerous scenarios such as the ongoing military conflict in Ukraine.
