The high-profile backing of Airbus with the announcement of its new ZeroE project to get a hydrogen-powered airliner into service by 2035 has raised the profile of this carbon-free alternative to jet fuel. But other pioneers, including ZeroAvia and Universal Hydrogen, are advancing different approaches, such as converting existing aircraft to run on hydrogen and these may make it to market around 10 years earlier.
