Collins Aerospace has announced two initiatives that will increase its maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) capacity at two sites in the Asia-Pacific region, representing an investment of more than $27 million. Over $11m of that is being allocated to relocating its operation at Xiamen in China, nearly doubling its footprint by moving from a 50,000-square foot facility to a new site with 80,000 sq ft of workspace. Multiple Collins products will be supported from there, such as fuel control systems, avionics, evacuation slides, rescue hoists, and engine vane actuators. A wide spectrum of aircraft types will be supported, ranging from Airbus A350, A330neo and Boeing 787, to general aviation types and helicopters. MRO support will also cover Collins products aboard Chinese airliners, including the ARJ21 and C919.
More than $16 million is being spent in Malaysia on a new facility in the Subang Aerotech Park at Selangor. The 160,000-sq ft site represents a four-fold increase in capacity compared to the current facility, which has been dedicated to environmental control systems. The additional space will allow MRO activities to be extended to heat exchangers, air cycle machines, engine starters, valves, propellers, and actuation systems. Aircraft types that will be supported include Boeing 787 and 777X, Airbus A320 and A380, and ATR42/72.
Both of the new facilities will work closely with the company’s innovation hub in Singapore to enhance repair flows and quality, while paving the way for digital transformation. The extra capacity of the new sites themselves will bring faster turnaround times and deliver more efficient services to regional customers.
