The February issue, assembled just before the HeliExpo show, features a heavy dose of rotorcraft and eVTOL news, starting on Page 1. We have a detailed overview of the U.S. notice of proposed rulemaking on regulations mapping out ID requirements for unmanned aircraft. On the investment side, we look at automakers Hyundai and Toyota each making a move into the market also known as urban air mobility. We also take a detailed look at the NTSB investigation into the recent Hawaiian air tour crash; and the establishment of an industry task force to resist legislative efforts to restrict the air tour industry in the state.

AIN’s Charles Alcock delivers an aviation-centric report on ex-auto exec Carlos Ghosn’s cloak-and-dagger escape from Japan, where he was under house arrest pending trial for alleged financial crimes. In different sort of legal entanglement, The FAA warned aviation services provider BlackBird and some of its pilots that their web-related services could well be outside the realm of Part 91, and they could be held liable.

Editor-in-chief Matt Thurber flew the Textron Aviation Cessna Citation CJ4 for a detailed pilot report. He found the largest CJ to be a good mix of versatility, performance, cabin size, and handling qualities. Thurber also has a report on the wide range of tablet-size hardware available for the top electronic flight bag apps.

And on the air-transport side, we examine details on the shootdown of a Ukrainian airliner and the response from the country’s government. We also get a read on the new Boeing CEO’s view of the year ahead.
