Pratt & Whitney will establish an India Engineering Center (IEC) in Bengaluru to commence operations in January 2023, the Connecticut-based engine company said Monday. It expects the IEC to employ 500 engineers and professionals when fully staffed, the company said.
“Pratt & Whitney’s India Engineering Center will be a first-of-its-kind investment for our company in India,” said Geoff Hunt, senior v-p engineering, Pratt & Whitney. “The IEC will help Pratt & Whitney leverage the engineering skills our future Indian workforce will deliver.”
As part of Pratt & Whitney’s integrated global operations, the IEC will work alongside centers in the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, and Poland, and it has already begun recruiting a first tranche of staff.
“The IEC will allow us to synergize with existing Pratt & Whitney operations capabilities in India,” said Paul Weedon, executive director for engineering, Pratt & Whitney Canada.
The company will place the center adjacent to its India Capability Center (ICC), in Yelahanka, Bengaluru. The ICC is a global supply chain support and operations center the company established earlier this year as part of United Technologies Corporation India Pvt Ltd (UTCIPL), employing almost 200 people. The firm also has invested in an India Customer Training Center in Hyderabad and an R&D collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru.
“Pratt & Whitney’s growth in the country represents our strong ties and deep respect for the skills India offers, skills needed for the future of aviation,” said Ashmita Sethi, managing director of UTCIPL.
Pratt & Whitney has named DJ Dalal and Rema Ravindran as North American project director and IEC general manager, respectively.
