For an interesting demonstration of augmented reality, stop by the Red 6 stand at the Singapore Airshow and put on a set of virtual reality glasses to see how the company can put live targets into the virtual airspace surrounding a live aircraft.
Red 6’s Airborne Tactical Augmented Reality System places virtual airborne assets in visual range, so a trainee flying in an aircraft can view and interact with the virtual targets. These can include airborne tankers, for example, friendly forces in formation flight, or even antagonists ripe for the chasing.
The quality and resolution of Red 6’s virtual targets has steadily improved. According to the company, “This technological breakthrough enables a new paradigm in air combat training, unleashing the full potential of Live, Virtual and Constructive (LVC) training by bringing the V and the C assets into the real world, facilitating within visual range maneuvering against synthetic threats.” Such training will be a huge help to improve combat readiness, Red 6 asserted.
Earlier this month, Red 6 won a contract from Tactical Funding Increase (TACFI), an implementation of the U.S. Air Force SBIR/STTR Supplemental Funding Pilot Program. “We continue to be encouraged by the U.S. Air Force’s confidence in both the Red 6 solution and our mission to revolutionize training for our warfighter,” said Daniel Robinson, Founder and CEO of Red 6.
